For a full name change, strong proof is needed, and the Government Gazette notification is the safest one. The Gazette of India is the official public journal of the Government, and your name change is published in Part IV by the Department of Publication in Civil Lines, Delhi. Since 2026 the process runs mostly on the e-Gazette platform, where the digital copy carries the same legal weight as print.
