This District Has Been on Both Sides of a Split
Rohtas became a district on 10 November 1972, when the old Shahabad district was divided into Bhojpur and Rohtas. Then in 1991 Kaimur, with its headquarters at Bhabua, was carved out of Rohtas. So this district was first created out of another and later became the parent of a third.
In practice that means two kinds of older papers. A certificate from before 1972 names Shahabad, a district that no longer exists anywhere on the map, and a certificate from between 1972 and 1991 may name Rohtas for a place that today sits in Kaimur. Neither is an error. The affidavit has to set out that chain in plain words, naming the old district, the year it changed and your present address, which is exactly what most standard drafts leave out.
Not Every Case in Sasaram Needs a Gazette
