Name Change Agent in Junagadh

Junagadh has a documented history no other district in India shares. The Nawab signed an instrument of accession to Pakistan on 15 August 1947. In late September a provisional administration called the Arzi Hukumat was formed in Bombay under Samaldas Gandhi. On 8 November the state's Dewan, Shah Nawaz Bhutto, wrote to the Indian Regional Commissioner at Rajkot inviting the Government of India to take over the administration, which it did on 9 November 1947. A referendum was then held on 20 February 1948, in which of roughly one hundred and ninety thousand votes cast, only ninety one favoured Pakistan.

We set that out because of what it means for paperwork, not for any other reason. A certificate, land entry or municipal record dated inside those six months came from an administration that was in transition, and it may name an authority that existed only briefly. Such a paper is not invalid and it is not a forgery. What it needs is an affidavit that names the document, the authority that issued it and the exact date, and connects it to your present identity without asking anyone to interpret history. That is a line no standard draft contains.

Porbandar district was carved out of Junagadh in 1997, and Gir Somnath district was carved out of it again in 2013, with its headquarters at Veraval. Most districts in India have been split once. This one has been split twice inside a single generation, so a family here can hold three papers naming three different districts for the same village, all of them correct for the year they were issued.

Go back further and it multiplies. The old Junagadh state contained smaller states of its own, and Mangrol, Babariyawad, Bantva Manavadar and Sardargarh Bantva each acceded separately in that period. Before all of it, the region was known as Sorath. So an old land record or temple register can name a small state, a region and a district that no longer line up with anything on your Aadhaar. Every one of those shifts has to be stated plainly with its year, or a verifier reading two papers sees a contradiction that is not actually there.

Junagadh means the old fort, and the city sits at the foot of Mount Girnar around the Uparkot. In English records it is written both Junagadh and Junagarh, and the wider region has long been called Sorath, a name that appears on land papers and temple registers but is not an administrative unit today. The state was ruled by the Babi dynasty from the middle of the seventeenth century, and before that by the Chudasama Rajputs and the Sultans of Gujarat.

All of which means one family can hold papers describing the same address as Sorath, as Junagadh State, as Junagarh, and as Junagadh district in Gujarat.
