Quick Answer

To change your name legally in Palanpur, you follow three steps. A notarised affidavit on stamp paper, a public notice in two newspapers, one English and one Gujarati, and then a Gazette notification. Because Vav-Tharad district was carved out of Banaskantha on 2 October 2025, check which district your papers name before you file.

This One Is Happening Right Now

Your District Changed Last October, and the Mismatch Is Still Being Made

On 2 October 2025 the Revenue Department issued a notification under the Gujarat Land Revenue Code, 1879, splitting Banaskantha into two districts. Palanpur remained the headquarters of Banaskantha, and the new district of Vav-Tharad, Gujarat's thirty-fourth, took its headquarters at Tharad. The reason was distance. The Chief Minister said plainly that people were travelling thirty five to eighty five kilometres to reach the district headquarters at Palanpur for routine work. Banaskantha had fourteen talukas, the most of any district in the state, and was the second largest by area. After the split Vav-Tharad covers 6,257 square kilometres and Banaskantha 4,486, with roughly six hundred villages each.

Every other district change we handle is history. This one is live. Elsewhere the problem is that an old certificate names a district that no longer exists. Here it is the reverse. Your Aadhaar, your PAN and your school certificate all say Banaskantha, and a certificate you apply for next month may say Vav-Tharad. The mismatch is being created going forward, not backward, and it will appear in files for the next twenty years. New vehicle registrations in the new district already carry the GJ 40 series.

Before you file anything, check one thing: is your village in one of the eight talukas that moved, Deodar, Lakhani, Tharad, Rah, Vav, Dharnidhar, Suigam or Bhabhar? If yes, tell us. We word the affidavit to name both district forms with the date of the notification, so a verifier in five years reads it as one place and not two.
Central Gazette

The Central Gazette Process for a Name Change in Palanpur

This is the route accepted everywhere in India and abroad. Here is exactly what happens at each step.

Prepare and Notarise the Affidavit

A sworn declaration on non-judicial stamp paper, signed with two witnesses and attested by a Notary Public or First Class Magistrate in Palanpur.

Publish in English and Gujarati Newspapers

One English daily and one Gujarati daily, carrying the same old name, new name, address and affidavit date.

File With the Department of Publication

The complete file goes to the Controller of Publications, Civil Lines, Delhi, and your notice appears in Part IV of the Gazette of India.

Step 1 in Detail

What Your Name Change Affidavit Must Contain

Your old name exactly as printed on your existing documents
Your new name, spelt exactly as you want it recorded forever
Your house number, society, village and taluka exactly as on your proof
The district as printed, whether Banaskantha or Vav-Tharad, with the year
A declaration that both names belong to the same person
Your signature, two witness signatures, and the notary stamp with date
Decide the initials once, not later: initials are the biggest cause of rejection in Gujarat. Choose between A. B. Chaudhary, A B Chaudhary or the full expanded form, fix the spacing and the surname spelling, and keep it identical on all three documents.
Step 2 in Detail

The English and Gujarati Newspaper Rules

Two papers are needed, one English and one Gujarati, not just one
The notice must repeat the same old name, new name and address as the affidavit
It must mention the date on which the affidavit was made
The advertisement usually appears in the classified section
Keep the original dated cuttings showing the paper name
Even one letter spelt differently can get your whole file returned
Cost of this step: two budget dailies cost about Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 together, while premium national papers can cost Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,000. North Gujarat has strong Gujarati editions, so a local notice is straightforward to place.
Step 3 in Detail

What Goes Into Your Gazette File

The signed Gazette application form in the prescribed proforma
The original notarised affidavit
Original cuttings of both newspaper advertisements
A request letter addressed to the publishing authority
Identity proof, two photographs and the soft copy of the notice
The fee receipt, paid in the applicant's own name
Government fee and time: Rs 1,100 for an adult and Rs 1,700 for a minor for the Central Gazette. Publication usually takes 4 to 6 weeks after a complete file reaches the department, and the e-Gazette copy carries the same legal weight as the printed one.
A Border Most Guides Ignore

On the Rajasthan Border, Your Papers Come in Two Scripts

This district runs along the Rajasthan line, and families here have been marrying, farming and trading across it for generations. What that means on paper is unusual. A Gujarat document is written in the Gujarati script. A Rajasthan document is written in Devanagari. So one household can hold a school certificate in one script and a land record or marriage certificate in another, for the same person.

Two scripts produce two English spellings of the same name, because the transliteration is done separately each time by whoever typed it. On top of that, a clerk in Palanpur may not read Devanagari, and a clerk across the border may not read Gujarati, so neither can confirm what the other wrote. And a Rajasthan certificate is corrected only by a Rajasthan authority, never by a Gujarat office. The affidavit has to name each document, its script and issuing state, list every English spelling that appears, and declare them one person. The Central Gazette is then the proof both states accept, which is why we usually recommend it here.

Send both sides before we draft: photograph every paper, whichever script it is in, and tell us which state issued each one. If you can read out how the name is written in the original script, even better. We will not guess at a transliteration.

Both are valid. Here is the honest difference, so you pick the right one the first time.

Our honest advice for Palanpur: if every document is from Gujarat and the change is only for a state record, the state route is fine and the press is closer here than from most of the state. Where any paper comes from Rajasthan, or the family trades outside Gujarat, take the Central Gazette once. The state level detail is on our Gujarat name change guide, and the full comparison is in our name change agent in India guide.
Names Older Than the District

Palanpur State, and the Name Before Palanpur

Palanpur was a princely state in its own right until independence, ruled by a line of Nawabs, and it gave its name to the political agency that administered this corner of Gujarat. The town's older name is Prahladanpur, after Prahladan Dev who founded it, and that form still appears in old records and inscriptions. The district name Banaskantha simply means the bank of the Banas, the river that runs through it, and appears in older English records as two words, Banas Kantha.

So an old paper from here can name a princely state, a British agency, a town called Prahladanpur, or a district spelt as two words, and all of it is genuine. What the affidavit must do is name each document, the authority that issued it, the year, and record the place exactly as written before connecting it to your present address. This is the older layer of the same problem you have just read about with Vav-Tharad, and both belong in one properly worded file rather than two separate attempts.

Send the oldest paper in the house: a matric certificate, a land record, a revenue receipt. If it names Prahladanpur, Palanpur State or Banas Kantha, that is evidence and not a defect. We will place it in the chain with its year.
Save Your Money

Not Every Case in Palanpur Needs a Gazette

Many agents sell a Gazette for every case. That is not honest. A district that changed in October 2025, a paper naming Prahladanpur, or a Devanagari record from across the Rajasthan line is not a name change problem at all. Those need a properly worded affidavit, not a notification. And a Gazette cannot amend a Rajasthan document either, since only a Rajasthan authority can do that.

A name error in a birth certificate registered in Gujarat is corrected by the Registrar through the Palanpur Nagar Palika, or the nagarpalika or gram panchayat where the birth was registered. Caste, income and residence certificates are corrected by the issuing authority at the taluka or Mamlatdar office, and land record entries through the revenue side and the talati. A Gazette is for a full legal name change, after marriage, after divorce, for numerology or by personal choice, and for cases where the same difference repeats across records from more than one state.

Your Complete Name Change Journey in Palanpur, Handled by NameChangeAgent

Most people think the Gazette is the finish line. It is the middle. Here is the whole journey, and where we stand beside you at each stage.

NameChangeAgent is a platform built for exactly this one job, done properly, in your own city. We are based in Delhi and we work with families across Banaskantha entirely online. The Chief Minister's own reason for splitting this district was that people were driving up to eighty five kilometres to reach an office. We would rather you drove nowhere. You send photographs of what you have on WhatsApp. We read them, tell you honestly which route your case needs, and then carry it through.

What makes a Palanpur file different is what you have already read on this page. A district that split in October 2025, so the mismatch in your papers is still being created, a Rajasthan document in a different script that no Gujarat office can amend, an old paper naming Prahladanpur or Palanpur State. A generic online form asks about none of that, and most agents have not yet updated their templates for a district that is less than a year old. We ask before a single word is drafted, because a file worded correctly the first time does not come back.

Free Consultation on Your Palanpur Case

Send your papers on WhatsApp. We tell you which route applies, the honest cost, and whether you even need a Gazette. No charge and no obligation.

Affidavit Drafted and Notarised

We draft it naming both district forms with the notification date, every script and issuing state, and every English spelling, then get it notarised. Usually ready in one to two days.

English and Gujarati Notices Placed

We place both advertisements with wording identical to the affidavit, and collect the original dated cuttings for your file.

Gazette Filed and Followed Up

The complete file goes to the publishing authority, and we track it through to publication rather than leaving you to chase it.

Gazette Copy Delivered to You

You receive the published notification, your permanent legal proof, accepted in Gujarat and in Rajasthan alike.

Every Document Updated Afterwards

Aadhaar, PAN, passport, bank, provident fund, property and college records. Most agents stop before this stage, and this is the stage that actually matters.

One person, one number, all the way through: the same team member who reads your first WhatsApp message stays with your file until the last document is updated, in Gujarati, Hindi or English. Call 9540005002 or message 9540005064 to start.

People Also Ask

Name Change in Palanpur, Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to the questions we hear most often.

How do I change my name legally in Palanpur?
In three steps. A notarised affidavit on stamp paper, a public notice in one English and one Gujarati newspaper, and a Gazette notification. We handle all three for you, fully online.
My village is now in Vav-Tharad district, what changed?
Vav-Tharad was carved out of Banaskantha on 2 October 2025 by a Revenue Department notification under the Gujarat Land Revenue Code, 1879. Palanpur remains the Banaskantha headquarters and Tharad is the new district headquarters.
Which talukas moved to the new district?
Eight talukas form Vav-Tharad, namely Deodar, Lakhani, Tharad, Rah, Vav, Dharnidhar, Suigam and Bhabhar. Vav-Tharad covers 6,257 square kilometres and Banaskantha 4,486.
My Aadhaar says Banaskantha but a new certificate says Vav-Tharad, is that a problem?
It is the reverse of the usual problem and it needs stating plainly. The affidavit should name both district forms with the notification date, so a verifier reads them as one place rather than two.
Why does the new district have a different vehicle series?
Vav-Tharad has been given the GJ 40 registration series. It is a useful marker of the change, though a vehicle registration is not proof of identity for a Gazette file.
My document is from Rajasthan and in Devanagari, can a Gujarat office correct it?
No. A Rajasthan certificate is corrected only by a Rajasthan authority. The affidavit names the document, its script and its issuing state, and a Central Gazette notification is what both states accept.
My old paper says Prahladanpur, what is that?
Prahladanpur is the older name of Palanpur, after Prahladan Dev who founded the town. It refers to the same place and the affidavit should record it as written.
How do I correct a name in a Palanpur birth certificate?
That is a Registrar correction through the Palanpur Nagar Palika, or through the nagarpalika or gram panchayat where the birth was registered. It is not a Gazette matter.
How much does a name change cost in Palanpur?
The Central Gazette Government fee is Rs 1,100 for an adult and Rs 1,700 for a minor. The Gujarat Gazette fee is separate and non-refundable, and newspaper and affidavit charges are extra. Our complete service starts at Rs 3,999.
Will the Gazette update my Aadhaar and PAN automatically?
No. The Gazette is the proof of the change. You then apply to each authority separately, and each has its own process. We guide you through Aadhaar, PAN, passport, bank, property and college records after publication.
