Name Change Agent in Tharad

Vav-Tharad came into existence on 2 October 2025, when the Revenue Department issued a notification under the Gujarat Land Revenue Code, 1879, splitting Banaskantha into two districts. Tharad became the headquarters of the new district and eight talukas came with it, Deodar, Lakhani, Tharad, Rah, Vav, Dharnidhar, Suigam and Bhabhar. The district covers 6,257 square kilometres and had a population of about 1.38 million at the last census. New vehicle registrations here carry the GJ 40 series.

Think about what that means for your file. Your Aadhaar says Banaskantha. Your PAN says Banaskantha. Your school certificate, your land record, your voter ID and your bank passbook all say Banaskantha, because they were issued before October 2025. Not some of them, all of them. Every resident of this district is in that position and will be for years. So a Gazette file from Tharad is never a simple one district file. The affidavit has to name Banaskantha as it appears on each existing paper, name Vav-Tharad as the district now, cite the notification date, and state that the village and the person have not moved. An agent working from a template made before last October will not do any of that.

Vav-Tharad sits on the international frontier. Rajasthan lies to the north, the Rann of Kutch to the west, and Nadabet in this district is where the Seema Darshan gate stands. Living in a border district does not make your paperwork harder in law, and nobody should tell you otherwise. What it does change in practice is timing. Police verification for a passport, and background checks by employers and banks, are carried out more thoroughly in frontier districts, and they take longer.

That matters for the order in which you do things. If you are planning a passport, complete the Gazette first, then update Aadhaar, then apply. A verification officer who finds one clean published notification and matching records will clear the file. One who finds a name that does not match across three documents, in a border district, will refer it upward and you will wait months. This is the single most useful piece of advice we can give anyone in this district, and it costs nothing to follow.

The notification lists eight talukas for this district, and two of the names, Rah and Dharnidhar, are unfamiliar to many people who have lived here all their lives. Deodar also appears written as Diyodar. Meanwhile Banaskantha kept ten talukas, including names such as Hadad and Ogad. The reorganisation did not only move talukas between districts, it settled taluka names on paper that everyday speech has not caught up with.

A taluka is not a formality on a certificate. Caste, income, residence and land records are all issued at the taluka or Mamlatdar office and carry that name. So over the next few years people here will hold one certificate naming an old taluka and another naming a new one, alongside a district that changed at the same time. Two moving parts, one file. The affidavit has to record the taluka and the district exactly as printed on each document, with its year, and then state plainly that the village is unchanged.
