Quick Answer

To change your name legally in Sirsa, you follow three steps. A notarised affidavit on stamp paper, a public notice in one Hindi and one English newspaper, and a Gazette notification. But if the problem is only a wrong name in your Family ID, the Government provides a correction module free of charge and no Gazette is needed.

Read This Before You Pay Anyone

Correcting Your Family ID Costs Nothing

The Parivar Pehchan Patra, which most people call the Family ID, is the Haryana Government's single record for a household. Pensions, scholarships, ration, domicile and income certificates, marriage registration and much else are delivered through it. The Government's own portal says two things very clearly. Citizens can now apply for a correction themselves, through the Correction Module under the Family Details tab. And updating or creating a Parivar Pehchan Patra is a free service, with a specific instruction that an operator must not take any fee from a citizen for it.

We are a paid service and we are telling you this anyway, because a name spelt differently in the Family ID is not a legal name change and never was. It is a data correction in a state database, and the state has made it free and made it something you can do yourself. Anybody charging you for it is charging for something the Government has already told them not to charge for. If that is your whole problem, you do not need us, and we would rather say so in the first message than take money for it.

Why this matters more here than most places: Sirsa district saw a serious episode of Family ID update errors, reported to have removed poor families from the Below Poverty Line list, with a large number of ration cards cancelled over a few months. Those were families who depended on that ration. If your household has been affected, treat the Family ID correction as urgent and free, and do not let anyone bill you for it.
Central Gazette

The Central Gazette Process for a Name Change in Sirsa

This is the route for a genuine name change. Here is exactly what happens at each step.

Prepare and Notarise the Affidavit

A sworn declaration on non-judicial stamp paper, signed with two witnesses and attested by a Notary Public or First Class Magistrate in Sirsa.

Publish in Hindi and English Newspapers

One Hindi daily and one English daily, carrying the same old name, new name, address and affidavit date.

File With the Department of Publication

The complete file goes to the Controller of Publications, Civil Lines, Delhi, and your notice appears in Part IV of the Gazette of India.

Step 1 in Detail

What Your Name Change Affidavit Must Contain

Your old name exactly as printed on your existing documents
Your new name, spelt exactly as you want it recorded forever
Your house number, mohalla or village, and tehsil exactly as on your proof
Any document issued in Punjab or Rajasthan, with its state and year
A declaration that both names belong to the same person
Your signature, two witness signatures, and the notary stamp with date
Decide the initials once, not later: inconsistent initials are the most common reason a file is returned. Choose between G. R. Bishnoi, G R Bishnoi or the full expanded form, fix the spacing and the surname spelling, and keep it identical on all three documents and in the Family ID.
Step 2 in Detail

The Hindi and English Newspaper Rules

Two papers are needed, one Hindi and one English, not just one
The notice must repeat the same old name, new name and address as the affidavit
It must mention the date on which the affidavit was made
The advertisement usually appears in the classified section
Keep the original dated cuttings showing the paper name
Even one letter spelt differently can get your whole file returned
Cost of this step: two budget dailies cost about Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 together, while premium national papers can cost Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,000. Punjabi and Hindi editions both circulate in this belt, but the Gazette file needs one Hindi and one English paper.
Step 3 in Detail

What Goes Into Your Gazette File

The signed Gazette application form in the prescribed proforma
The original notarised affidavit
Original cuttings of both newspaper advertisements
A request letter addressed to the publishing authority
Identity proof, two photographs and the soft copy of the notice
The fee receipt, paid in the applicant's own name
Government fee and time: Rs 1,100 for an adult and Rs 1,700 for a minor for the Central Gazette. Publication usually takes 4 to 6 weeks after a complete file reaches the department, and the e-Gazette copy carries the same legal weight as the printed one.
One Spelling, Many Doors

A Wrong Name in the Family ID Blocks More Than One Thing

The reason a Family ID error hurts so much is that the record sits underneath many services at once. Old age samman allowance, widow pension, disability pension, ration, domicile certificate, income certificate, marriage registration, birth and death certificates and more are all delivered against it. So one spelling that does not match your Aadhaar can hold up a pension and a scholarship and a ration entitlement at the same time, and each office you visit will tell you the problem is somewhere else.

There is a second thing worth knowing, particularly for families with daughters. When a girl marries, her name is moved to her in-laws' Parivar Pehchan Patra. If she has also changed her surname at that point, the two things happen close together and it is easy for one to be recorded and the other missed, leaving her name inconsistent between her own documents and the household record she now belongs to. That is exactly the situation where a Gazette notification and a Family ID correction both have a part to play, in that order, and where doing only one of them causes trouble a year later.

The order that works: if your name has genuinely changed, publish the Gazette first, then update Aadhaar, then correct the Family ID so it matches. If your name has not changed and the Family ID simply has it wrong, go straight to the free correction module and skip everything else. Send us a photograph and we will tell you which of those two you are.

Our honest advice for Sirsa: both presses are far from here, so distance does not settle it. What does settle it is the border. This district touches Punjab to the north and Rajasthan to the west, and a great many families hold a school certificate, a marriage record or land papers from one of those states. Where that is true, only the Central Gazette carries across. The state level detail is on our Haryana name change guide, and the full comparison is in our name change agent in India guide.
Two State Lines, One District

Papers From Punjab or Rajasthan Stay With Punjab or Rajasthan

Sirsa sits at the western corner of Haryana, with Punjab along its northern boundary and Rajasthan to the west and south. Families here have married, farmed and studied across both lines for generations, which is entirely ordinary and entirely fine. What it means on paper is that one household can hold a Haryana school certificate, a Punjab marriage record and a Rajasthan land entry, and no Haryana office can amend either of the other two. A certificate is corrected only by the authority that issued it, in the state that issued it.

This is also why the Family ID and the Gazette are different tools for different jobs. The Family ID is a Haryana database and a correction there does nothing to a Punjab certificate. A Central Gazette notification is the one document all three states accept as proof that two names belong to one person, which is why for a cross border household it is worth taking once rather than fixing records one state at a time. Sirsa district was itself carved out of Hisar in 1975, so older family papers from here may name Hisar rather than Sirsa, and our Hisar page covers the parent district.

Tell us the issuing state for every paper: read the seal and say whether it came from Haryana, Punjab or Rajasthan. In this district that single detail decides which corrections are even possible and which will simply be refused, and it takes a minute to check.
Save Your Money

Not Every Case in Sirsa Needs a Gazette

Many agents sell a Gazette for every case. That is not honest, and in this district the clearest example is the Family ID. A wrong spelling there is a free correction you can make yourself through the Government's own module. A paper naming Hisar instead of Sirsa is not a name change problem either, and neither is a Punjab or Rajasthan certificate, which a Gazette cannot amend at all. Those need a properly worded affidavit at most, not a notification.

A name error in a birth certificate is corrected by the Registrar through the Municipal Council Sirsa, or the municipal committee or gram panchayat where the birth was registered. Caste, income, residence and domicile certificates are corrected by the issuing authority at the tehsil or SDM office, and land record entries through the revenue side and the patwari. If an office refuses in writing, the appeal runs upward through the Deputy Commissioner, which our Karnal page sets out. A Gazette is for a full legal name change, and for cases where the same difference repeats across records from more than one state.

Your Complete Name Change Journey in Sirsa, Handled by NameChangeAgent

Most people think the Gazette is the finish line. It is the middle. Here is the whole journey, and where we stand beside you at each stage.

NameChangeAgent is a platform built for exactly this one job, done properly, in your own town. We are based in Delhi and we work with families across Sirsa district entirely online. You send photographs of what you have on WhatsApp. We read them, tell you honestly which route your case needs, and then carry it through. In this district the first thing we often say is that your problem is the free Family ID correction module and not a Gazette at all, which means we get no work from you and you keep your money.

What makes a Sirsa file different is what you have already read on this page. A Family ID that sits underneath a pension, a scholarship and a ration entitlement all at once, so one wrong letter closes several doors. A district on two state borders, where a Punjab or Rajasthan certificate can only be corrected in Punjab or Rajasthan. A daughter's name moving to her in-laws' household record at the same time as a surname change. A district carved out of Hisar in 1975, so older papers name Hisar. A generic online form asks about none of that, and an agent working from a template will bill you for a Gazette to fix a state database. We ask before a single word is drafted, because a file worded correctly the first time does not come back.

People Also Ask

Name Change in Sirsa, Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to the questions we hear most often.

How do I change my name legally in Sirsa?
In three steps. A notarised affidavit on stamp paper, a public notice in one Hindi and one English newspaper, and a Gazette notification. We handle all three for you, fully online.
My name is wrong in my Family ID, do I need a Gazette?
No. The Government's portal provides a Correction Module under the Family Details tab, citizens can apply themselves, and updating a Parivar Pehchan Patra is a free service. An operator is specifically not to charge a fee for it.
Someone offered to fix my Family ID for money, should I pay?
The Government's own portal states that Parivar Pehchan Patra updation and creation is free and that no fee is to be taken from citizens for it. If that is your only problem, you should not be paying anyone.
Why does one wrong letter in the Family ID cause so many problems?
Because pensions, scholarships, ration, domicile and income certificates, marriage registration and other services are delivered against that single record. One mismatch can hold several of them up at once.
My daughter married and her name moved to her in-laws' Family ID, what should we check?
Check that her surname change and the household transfer have both been recorded consistently. If her name genuinely changed, publish the Gazette first, then Aadhaar, then the Family ID, so all three agree.
Can a Haryana office correct my Punjab or Rajasthan certificate?
No. A certificate is corrected only by the authority that issued it, in the state that issued it. A Central Gazette notification is the proof all three states accept that two names belong to one person.
My old paper says Hisar, not Sirsa, is it valid?
Yes. Sirsa district was carved out of Hisar in 1975, so anything issued before that correctly names Hisar. The affidavit records each district as printed with its year.
Should I take the Haryana Gazette or the Central Gazette?
Both presses are a long way from Sirsa, so distance does not decide it. The border does. If any document in your file came from Punjab or Rajasthan, or a passport is involved, take the Central Gazette.
How much does a name change cost in Sirsa?
A Family ID correction is free. For a genuine name change the Central Gazette Government fee is Rs 1,100 for an adult and Rs 1,700 for a minor, the Haryana Gazette fee is separate and non-refundable, and newspaper and affidavit charges are extra. Our complete service starts at Rs 3,999.
Will the Gazette update my Family ID and Aadhaar automatically?
No. The Gazette is the proof of the change. You then apply to each authority separately, and each has its own process. We guide you through Aadhaar, PAN, the Family ID, passport, bank and property records after publication.
