Name Change Agent in Bidar

In 2019 the region around Bidar was renamed from Hyderabad-Karnataka to Kalyana-Karnataka. The name looks back to Kalyana, or Kalyani, the capital of the Western Chalukyas, who were themselves called the Kalyani Chalukyas after it. That town is in Bidar district, about sixty five kilometres from the city. And it has not been called Kalyana for seventy years. Published accounts record that after independence and the division of states on linguistic lines in 1956, Kalyana was renamed Basavakalyana in memory of Basavanna, the twelfth century social reformer.

So you live in a region named after a place, and the place gave that name up before your parents were born. Nobody finds this strange, nobody has petitioned to fix it, and every official form in the district carries both words without any difficulty. That is the ordinary condition of names, and it is worth remembering the next time an office queries a single letter on your certificate.
