To change your name legally in Koderma, you follow three steps. A notarised affidavit, a public notice in one daily local leading newspaper, and a Central Gazette notification with the fee paid on Bharatkosh. This district writes its own biggest town at least four different ways, so send photographs rather than typing anything out.
Jhumri Telaiya Is Written Four Different Ways Officially
Count them. Wikipedia records the town as Jhumri Telaiya and notes it is also spelled Jhumri Tilaiya or Jhumri Talaiya. The district administration's own website runs it together as JhumriTelaiya, with no space at all. The Nagar Parishad address writes Jhumri Telaiya with the space. And a Government of India industrial profile for the district prints it as JHUMARI TELAIYA, with an extra A. Four forms, all in official use, for one town of under a hundred thousand people.
The district's own name does the same thing. It is Koderma district with an e, but the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha constituencies are Kodarma with an a, and the administration's tourism page uses Kodarma town and Koderma district in the same paragraph. If you have ever felt awkward that your surname appears differently on two documents, look at what the offices around you do with their own names, on their own letterheads, this year.

The Radio Made Jhumri Telaiya Known Across India
The district administration's own page tells the story plainly. Originally a little known town, Jhumri Telaiya became famous in India in the 1950s through its association with radio stations such as Radio Ceylon and Vividh Bharati of All India Radio. Before that the town was known for something else entirely. When the British laid a railway line through Koderma in the 1890s they found vast mica deposits, mining houses followed, and the place earned the name Abrak Nagri, the city of mica.
There is something worth noticing in that for anybody thinking about their own name. A name can end up better known than the thing it belongs to, and it can carry associations the place never chose. Jhumri Telaiya did not set out to become a household word on the radio. The name simply travelled. Your name does the same thing on a smaller scale, through school registers, bank records and the mouths of people who half remember it, and that is precisely why a published Gazette notification is worth having. It is the one version that does not drift.
Papers From Before 1994 Correctly Name Hazaribagh
The district administration sets out the sequence and is unusually precise about it. Koderma sub division was made from Hazaribagh district in 1973. On 10 April 1994 it became a full fledged district. The history page puts the changeover to the day, recording that the district was an integral part of the Hazaribagh district until 09.04.1994. Today Koderma has six blocks, being Koderma Sadar, Jainagar, Markacho, Satgawan, Chandwara and Domchanch.
So anything issued for this area before 10 April 1994 correctly names Hazaribagh, and there is a further window between 1973 and 1994 in which a paper may name Koderma sub division while the district is still Hazaribagh. Add the state change of November 2000 and you have three periods to keep straight. None of them is an error. Our page for the parent district is at name change agent in Hazaribagh.
Jharkhand Gazette or Central Gazette in Koderma?
With Bihar on two sides, this is not a close decision.

Not Every Case in Koderma Needs a Gazette
Many agents sell a Gazette for every case. Here the easiest pitch of all is pointing at a spelling. Telaiya on one paper and Tilaiya on another, Koderma on one and Kodarma on another, and calling it a defect that needs fixing. It is not a defect. Those are the forms the offices themselves use. Pointing at Hazaribagh on a paper from before April 1994, or Bihar on anything before November 2000, is the same trick with a different word.
A name error in a birth certificate is corrected by the Registrar at the local body where the birth was registered. Caste, income, residence and domicile certificates are corrected by the issuing authority at the block or circle office. A Gazette is for a full legal name change, after marriage, after divorce, for numerology or by personal choice, and for cases where the same difference repeats across several records. Our name spelling correction page explains the difference.

Your Complete Name Change Journey in Koderma, Handled by NameChangeAgent
Most people think the Gazette is the finish line. It is the middle. Here is the whole journey.
NameChangeAgent is a platform built for exactly this one job, done properly. We are based in Delhi and we work with families across Koderma district entirely online, from Koderma town and Jhumri Telaiya to Domchanch, Markacho, Jainagar, Satgawan, Chandwara and Tilaiya. You send photographs of what you have on WhatsApp. We read them, tell you honestly which route your case needs, and then carry it through. Your affidavit is made where you live.
What makes a Koderma file different is how casually the spellings move here. The biggest town in the district appears as Jhumri Telaiya, Jhumri Tilaiya, JhumriTelaiya and Jhumari Telaiya across official sources, and the district itself is Koderma in one place and Kodarma in another. Add papers naming Hazaribagh before April 1994, a sub division that existed from 1973, and Bihar before November 2000, and you have a file with several correct answers in it. Meanwhile the pages ranking for this state tell you to book two newspaper advertisements and make your affidavit in Delhi. We ask before a single word is drafted.

File Prepared and Sent by Courier
We pay the fee on Bharatkosh, print the receipt, assemble the complete file and send it by courier to the Controller of Publications in Delhi, then follow it through to publication.
Your Gazette Notification Retrieved
Once published we retrieve your notification from egazette.gov.in, Part IV, and send it to you. Nobody should be charging you extra for a hard copy, which was discontinued in 2015.

Aadhaar, PAN, passport, bank, provident fund and college records. Most agents stop before this stage, and this is the stage that actually matters.

This page explains a documentation process and is not legal advice on your individual case. Where sources disagree, as they do on the year this district was created and on the spelling of its main town, we report the disagreement rather than choosing quietly. Separate guidelines apply to change of name and gender, and to minors. Fees are set by the Department of Publication and are revised, so confirm the current position before you pay. For a contested matter, or anything before a court, you need a lawyer engaged for you specifically.
