Quick Answer

To change your name legally in Yadgir, you follow three steps. A notarised affidavit sworn here with two witnesses, public notices in two newspapers, one local and one national, and a Central Gazette notification with the fee paid on Bharatkosh. The adult fee is Rs 1,100, and each alias name you carry adds Rs 250.

2008, 2009, 2010

This District Is Sixteen Years Old, and Its Founding Date Is Recorded Three Ways

The district administration's own profile page states that Yadgir district was carved out of the erstwhile Kalaburagi district as the thirtieth district of Karnataka on 31 December 2009. A widely read encyclopedia gives the formation date as 10 April 2010. And a third account records that the cabinet met at Gulbarga on 26 September 2008 and resolved that Yadgir would be formed as a new district, after which a special officer was appointed to hold the post until the final notification appeared in the Karnataka Gazette.

All three are probably describing real moments, which is exactly the problem. A cabinet decision, a notification and an operational start are three different events and people quote whichever one they read first. This is the newest district we have written about anywhere in the country, and its own birthday cannot be pinned to a single date in public sources.

Hold that next to what an office says about your certificate. If a sixteen year old administrative fact is published three ways by careful people, a one letter difference between a school record from 1974 and an Aadhaar card from 2012 is not evidence of anything except that two clerks wrote on two days. A Gazette notification does not argue about which was right. It publishes one dated statement that both belong to you, and that is the end of the conversation.
Yadgir, Yadgiri, Yadagiri, Yadavagiri, Yetagir

The Government Uses Two Spellings of This District's Name on One Website

The official district website runs on the address yadgir.nic.in, and the profile page on it is headed District Yadgiri, Government of Karnataka. One website, two spellings, in the address bar and in the heading. A widely read encyclopedia adds a third, describing the district as officially known as Yadagiri District. Older accounts give Yetagir. And the name is generally traced to Yadavagiri, from the Yadavas who ruled from a hill, giri in Kannada, with the town recorded as a capital of the Yadava kingdom between about 1347 and 1425.

That is five written forms of one name, and two of them are in use by the same government today. Nobody at any office treats the domain name and the page heading as a contradiction, because everyone understands that spellings settle slowly and unevenly. The same understanding is not always extended to a person standing at a counter with two documents.

Which is why we ask for photographs rather than for you to type your name. If your papers show Yadgir on one and Yadagiri on another, we print both, each on the document that carries it, with its year. We never standardise quietly, because the moment the affidavit stops matching the paper it describes, it stops doing its job.
1863, 1873, 2009

Gulbarga Was Once a Taluk Under Shorapur, and This District Later Separated From Gulbarga

Published accounts record the sequence plainly. In 1863, when the Nizam's government formed the Jillabandi arrangement, Surpur, also written Shorapur, became a district headquarters with nine taluks under it, and Gulbarga was one of those nine. Ten years later, in 1873, Gulbarga emerged as a separate district with seven taluks. And in 2009 this area was carved back out of Gulbarga, which by then had itself been renamed Kalaburagi.

So a place that was once the headquarters over Gulbarga later sat inside Gulbarga for well over a century, and has now separated from it again. A hundred and forty seven years, and the relationship between two names on a map completely reversed and then reversed again. Our page for the district on the other side of that history is at Kalaburagi.

For your file this matters in a very ordinary way. Papers issued here before 2009 name Gulbarga district, and papers before 1956 may name Hyderabad State, because this region was under the Asaf Jahi Nizams from 1724 until the integration of Hyderabad State in 1948, then part of Mysore State from 1956, then Karnataka from 1973. That is five administrations on one address. Every one of those papers is correct for its year, and we name each exactly as printed.
The Line Almost Nobody Quotes You

If You Carry an Alias Name, That Is Rs 250 More Each

Here is the fee schedule as we actually file it. Rs 1,100 for an adult. Rs 1,700 for a minor. Rs 1,350 for a public notice. Rs 3,500 for Indians living abroad. And Rs 250 in addition for every alias name carried on the application. That last line is the one you will almost never see quoted, and it is the one that surprises people, because a great many families here carry a second name that appears on some papers and not on others.

If a school record shows one form, a land record shows a house name, and a bank passbook shows something else, say so at the very start. It may be an alias that belongs on the application, and if it does, the fee changes before you pay rather than after. Being told about it up front is a fair test of whether the person quoting you has actually filed one of these.

On stamp duty, one page ranking for this state puts it exactly right and deserves the credit. It says the affidavit goes on stamp paper of Rs 20 or above. That is the correct way to describe a duty, because duty is a minimum and not a fixed target, so paying more than the law requires never invalidates a document. Other pages insist on Rs 100 and one goes so far as to say that Rs 200 stamp paper causes rejection, which cannot be right. The Karnataka Stamp Act, 1957 sets Rs 20 for an affidavit.
Central Gazette

The Central Gazette Process for a Name Change in Yadgir

This is the route accepted everywhere in India and abroad. Here is each step.

Prepare and Notarise the Affidavit Here

A sworn declaration on non-judicial stamp paper with two ordinary witnesses, attested by a Notary Public or First Class Magistrate in Yadgir. Never self attested.

Publish in Two Newspapers

One local paper and one national, both carrying your father's or husband's name and your full residential address. The originals go with the file.

Pay on Bharatkosh and Send the File

Pay through the Non-Tax Receipt Portal, print the receipt, and the complete file goes by post or courier to the Controller of Publications, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054.

Step 2 in Detail

Both Notices Must Match the Affidavit Word for Word

One local newspaper and one national newspaper
Both stating your father's or husband's name and full address
Wording identical to the affidavit, including every alias
Both originals forwarded, so buy spare copies on the day
Rates differ widely between papers, so ask before booking
The affidavit is notarised, never self attested
The commonest reason a file comes back is a mismatch between the affidavit and the advertisements. A middle name dropped in one, an initial expanded in another, an alias printed in one paper and not the other. We word the affidavit and both notices from one source so they cannot drift apart. And buy spare copies of both papers on the morning they print, because the originals are forwarded and the guidelines state that submitted documents are not returned in any form. Our name change affidavit page sets out the wording.
Step 3 in Detail

Bharatkosh Only, and Nothing Older Than a Year

Paid through the Non-Tax Receipt Portal at bharatkosh.gov.in only
Payment moved to that portal from 1 October 2018
NEFT and RTGS were stopped from 18 March 2019
No demand draft, and no compact disc
Documents must not be older than one year
The Gazette hard copy was discontinued from 1 October 2015
The one year rule is the most expensive line on this page. An affidavit sworn and both notices published, then the file set aside while the tur harvest or a wedding took over, and eighteen months later all of it has to be redone and paid for again, including both advertisements. If you already have papers prepared, tell us the date on them before anything else happens.
Check This Before You Pay Anybody

Not Every Case in Yadgir Needs a Gazette

A name error in a birth certificate is corrected by the Registrar of Births and Deaths at the body that registered the birth, under section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969. You apply to that Registrar with the supporting documents. No Gazette and no newspaper advertisement are involved. An SSLC or PUC marks card is corrected by the board that issued it. Caste, income and residence certificates are corrected by the issuing authority.

A Gazette is for a full legal name change, after marriage, after divorce, for numerology or by personal choice, and for cases where the same difference repeats across enough records that fixing them one at a time costs more than publishing once. If one paper names Gulbarga district and another names Yadgir, that is not a case at all. Our name spelling correction page sets out the difference in full.

Send photographs and ask us the plain question, do I actually need this. A good share of the people who write to us do not, and we say so and they pay us nothing. That is not generosity. Between the Gazette fee, any alias charges, two newspaper advertisements and an affidavit, a case somebody did not need is real money in a district where it is not easily spared.
Compare the Two Routes

Karnataka State e-Gazette or Central Gazette in Yadgir?

The eastern edge of Karnataka, with Telangana across the district line.

PointKarnataka State e-GazetteCentral Gazette of India
Published byDepartment of Printing, Stationery and Publications, BengaluruDepartment of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi
Papers naming Gulbarga district before 2009Explained office by officeOne published proof settles it everywhere
Papers naming Hyderabad State before 1956Explained again at each counterCovered by the same notification
Work or family across the Telangana lineQuestioned outside KarnatakaAccepted there too
Article 371J benefits and local reservation recordsOften the one those offices ask forAlso accepted
Bank, PAN and provident fundNot what those systems work fromThe central notification they expect
Passport reissue and going abroadUsually not accepted for attestationThe published national record embassies expect
Where you download the copyThe state e-Gazette portalegazette.gov.in, Weekly Gazette, Part IV
Our honest advice for Yadgir: take the Central Gazette. This district sits on Karnataka's eastern edge with Telangana immediately across the line, and a great many families here have work, marriage and land connections on both sides of a border that only became a border in 1956. Papers can name Hyderabad State, Mysore State, Gulbarga district and Yadgir, and one national published proof carries all of it. If your case is purely a Karnataka board record, a state service file or an Article 371J matter, say so and we will tell you the state route is enough. The state comparison is on our Karnataka page, the neighbouring district page is Raichur, and the national guide is at name change agent in India.

Documents Required for a Name Change in Yadgir

Keep clear copies ready, and check the dates on anything already prepared.

Notarised name change affidavit on stamp paper, which we draft
Both original newspapers carrying your notice, local and national
Aadhaar, voter ID or passport as identity proof
Address proof showing your taluk, with a 585 series pin code
Any paper naming Gulbarga district, Hyderabad State or Shorapur
Two photographs, two witnesses, and the printed Bharatkosh receipt
One thing worth knowing before you send anything: the guidelines state that documents once submitted are not returned to the applicant, in original or photocopy form, so keep your own copies of everything, and that matters here because a pre-1956 Hyderabad State record is often the only paper a family has from that period. You download your notification from egazette.gov.in under the Weekly Gazette, Part IV. For central Government staff, the deed follows the format prescribed under the Ministry of Home Affairs memorandum of 12 March 1987.

Three separate things make up your total, and a good quote separates them. The Government fees above, paid on Bharatkosh in your own name with the receipt coming to you. The two newspaper advertisements, billed at cost after we tell you each paper's rate, and published rates for this state run anywhere from Rs 395 to Rs 3,000 depending on the publication. And our service fee, which is stated and does not move. If a quote gives you one number and will not break it down, you cannot check any part of it, and the alias line is exactly what disappears inside a lump sum.
One Platform, Start to Finish

Your Complete Name Change Journey in Yadgir, Handled by NameChangeAgent

Most people think the Gazette is the finish line. It is the middle. Here is the whole journey.

NameChangeAgent is a platform built for exactly this one job, done properly. We are based in Delhi and we work with people across Yadgir district entirely online, from Yadgir town and Shorapur to Shahapur, Gurmitkal, Hunasagi, Wadagera and the villages around them. You send photographs of what you have on WhatsApp. We read them, tell you honestly which route your case needs, and then carry it through. Your affidavit is notarised here, with two ordinary witnesses.

What makes a Yadgir file different is how new the district is and how old the paperwork underneath it can be. Records here can name Hyderabad State, Mysore State, Gulbarga district and Yadgir, and the district's own name is written five ways across published sources, two of them by the same government website. Add an alias name, which many families here carry, and the Government fee changes before you file. We ask about all of it before a single word is drafted.

Free Consultation on Your Yadgir Case

Send your papers on WhatsApp with the taluk, the years and any alias name, exactly as printed. We tell you whether your difference is a correction or a change, whether the state or Central route fits, and whether you need a Gazette at all. No charge and no obligation.

People Also Ask

Name Change in Yadgir, Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to the questions we hear most often.

How do I change my name legally in Yadgir?
In three steps. A notarised affidavit sworn here with two witnesses, public notices in two newspapers, one local and one national, and a Central Gazette notification with the fee paid on Bharatkosh. We handle all three for you, fully online.
What are the actual Government fees?
Rs 1,100 for an adult, Rs 1,700 for a minor, Rs 1,350 for a public notice, and Rs 250 extra for each alias name carried on the application. Indians living abroad pay Rs 3,500. Stamp duty on the affidavit is a separate Rs 20 under the Karnataka Stamp Act, 1957. Newspaper charges depend on the two papers.
What counts as an alias name?
A second name you are also known by, appearing on some documents and not others. It might be a house name, a shortened form, or a name used at school but not at the bank. Each alias carried on the application adds Rs 250 to the Government fee, so tell us at the start rather than after the quote is fixed.
When was Yadgir district formed?
Sources differ. The district administration's own profile page gives 31 December 2009, when it was carved out of the erstwhile Kalaburagi district as the thirtieth district of Karnataka. A widely read encyclopedia gives 10 April 2010. And a third account records the cabinet resolving to form the district at Gulbarga on 26 September 2008, with a special officer appointed until the final notification appeared in the Karnataka Gazette.
Is it Yadgir, Yadgiri or Yadagiri?
All three appear, and two of them on the same government website, which runs at yadgir.nic.in while its profile page is headed District Yadgiri. A widely read encyclopedia describes the district as officially known as Yadagiri. Older accounts give Yetagir, and the name is generally traced to Yadavagiri, from the Yadavas who ruled from a hill, giri in Kannada.
My papers name Gulbarga district.
Correct for their year. This area was part of Gulbarga district until Yadgir was carved out, and Gulbarga itself was renamed Kalaburagi in 2014. A record from before the separation naming Gulbarga is old rather than wrong.
My old paper names Hyderabad State.
Also correct. This region was under the Asaf Jahi Nizams of Hyderabad from 1724, until Hyderabad State was integrated into the Indian Union in 1948. Under the States Reorganisation Act of 1956 the area became part of Mysore State, which was renamed Karnataka in 1973.
Was Gulbarga once under Shorapur?
Yes. Published accounts record that in 1863, when the Nizam's government formed the Jillabandi arrangement, Surpur, also written Shorapur, became a district headquarters with nine taluks under it, and Gulbarga was one of the nine. In 1873 Gulbarga emerged as a separate district with seven taluks.
How many newspapers do I need?
Two. One local paper and one national, both stating your father's or husband's name along with your full residential address, and both originals are forwarded with the file. The wording in both must match the affidavit exactly, including any alias. Buy spare copies on the day, because submitted documents are not returned.
Does a birth certificate spelling need a Gazette?
No. You apply to the Registrar of Births and Deaths at the body that registered the birth, under section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, with the supporting documents. An SSLC or PUC marks card is corrected by the board that issued it. Neither needs a Gazette or a newspaper advertisement.
